Jungle Cry Review: There are many such stories of passion, struggle and passion in our India, which if they do not come on the screen, we may never know about them. Whether it is the story of slum children going abroad to play football or the story of an underdog team winning the World Cup in 1983, films have often brought us behind-the-scenes stories. One such story is ‘Jungle Cry’ which brings to us the true story of 12 tribal boys from Kalinga Institute winning the Junior Rugby World Cup. ‘Jungle Cry’ is releasing on Lionsgate Play on 3rd June.
Story: At the Kalinga Institute of Social Science, Rudra (Abhay Deol) goes from village to village with great difficulty to collect boys who play football and form a team out of them. But meanwhile, Paul comes to India in search of new rugby players from UK, who wants to prepare Rudra’s boys for the Rugby Junior World Cup Championship instead of football. This thing bothers Rudra a lot because he is preparing for the Football World Cup. But then begins the journey of feeding these children rugby and preparing them to win the World Cup. But can these boys go to London and win this world cup… To know this, you have to watch this film.
It is said in the world of media that viewers never get bored of crime, cinema and cricket. His interest in the news related to this always remains. Talking about films, the case fits right here too with a little twist. Not only cricket, sports drama films have often been preferred in cinema. Not only this, the sports which never attracted much crowd in the country, many times due to films, the audience has started taking interest in those sports as well. Adorned with the acting of Abhay Deol, this film will also give you full enjoyment of sports like rugby. If you are not familiar with this game, then some scenes of the film will also work to introduce you to this foreign game.
Talking about acting, Abhay Deol has always been known for his natural acting. He does not act on the screen, but often appears on the screen with such ease that you start feeling like that character. Emily Shah’s entry in the film is almost only after the interval, but whenever she has appeared on the screen, she has looked good. There is a lot of relaxation and stagnation in many scenes of Emily and Abhay.
Along with Abhay Deol, Emily Shah will be seen in this film.
Recently director Nagraj Manjule’s Amitabh Bachchan starrer film ‘Jhund’ was released. If you have seen this film, then while watching ‘Jungle Cry’ you will definitely remember ‘Jhund’ in the beginning. Children running with a marble box and then playing directly in the school ground. The good thing about ‘Jungle Cry’ is that nothing has been shown here in a tight-lipped manner, nor has any other coach or person been forcibly made a villain to make Abhay Deol a hero.
In between, the characters associated with the film are also seen telling their perspective on the story, due to which you start getting the feeling of documentary treatment from this film. But this style of telling the story does not bother at all. Yes, I think the speed of the story could have been increased a bit. Also, while watching some scenes, you will feel that you have seen similar situations before in any sports-drama film.
Director Sagar Balare’s film ‘Jungle Cry’ must be seen once, not only for the acting but also for the true story which was very important to come on the screen. 3 stars to this film from my side.
